Iron Man

Can you imagine a man with iron plates in his body? This is Iron Man, one of the superheroes of comic book fame. His real name is Anthony Stark, a billionaire playboy, who invents an ironclad suit for himself that makes him invincible. The suit of armour turns him into an incredible fighting machine. He is a relatively unknown superhero, but the story line of the plot follows the basic superhero pattern. A superhero and a villain that meet up and fight to battle the good over evil.

The plot of the Ironman comic take a different turn than other superhero comics when Stark becomes an alcoholic and battles the disease, turning his iron suit over to his friend, Rhodes, to take over the role he can no longer fulfill. According to fans, this shows his human side and proves that he does have failings just as ordinary people do. He is the one superhero who could actually exist.

The powered suit enables the Iron Man to fly because of the rocket propelled boots. Along with this, he also has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal to help fight crime. The wealthy playboy is a spin off from the Batman comics with billionaire Bruce Wayne and his Batmobile.

Writers comment on the human frailty that shows up in the Iron Man character and his ability to overcome his addiction. While the superheroes of the past battled inner conflicts dealing with their need for revenge, Stark has a different inner conflict that is more in tune with modern times. It could very well be a drug addiction as it is alcohol. He is contrasted with other superheroes, such as Captain America, who were seen as upholding the values of society, while Iron Man becomes one of the dregs of society until he makes his way back up to the top.
