Comic book conventions are not only actual events where comic book collectors from all over an area gather to trade, sell and buy comic books. There are also conventions for comic book collectors held online. In fact the world's largest convention of this sort is an online event. The purpose of such events is to promote the interest in collecting comic books and to communicate the history of this form of entertainment to others who are just starting with collecting.

The name given to comic book conventions is Comicon, There are regular updates of conventions on websites devoted to comic book collecting and they take place all over the country at various times of the year. The size of the convention depends on the area where it is held. Some of these shows are very impressive while others are only moderate. Some take place in shopping malls and school gymnasiums, while others are major events that are held in convention centers.

When you find a comic book convention near you, you do have to register in order to attend. Sometimes you can do this online which saves you a lot of time. You do have to budget your money because some conventions require a registration fee and you have to allot money for the comics you hope to buy. If you have to travel any distance to attend the convention, you also have to factor in the travel and accommodations costs. Although you may see die-hard fans dressed in the costume of their favorite comic book character, this isn't necessary. Casual dress is the norm.

Try to have as many conversations as possible with the exhibitors. This is one way to get information about comic book collecting and you will probably make new friendships along the way. Many comic book celebrities also attend these conventions, such as writers, artists, and publishers, so this will also give you an opportunity to get an autograph of a creator that you really admire.
