Comic book prices have certainly changed since the early days. When they were first introduced to the market, a comic book cost 10 cents and in 1959 the price rose to 12 cents for one comic. These same comic books are now worth a lot of money. For example, if you had the first issue of the Superman comic book, it was worth $200,000 in 2002 in mint condition. Today that same comic is worth $400,000. This not true for all comics because some of the ones that you paid three or four dollars for, are not even worth that much today.
If you want to find the comic book prices for each title that you have in your collection, you need to invest in purchasing a price guide. You can also seek the advice of an expert who can appraise your collection and give you an approximate value based on the titles that you have and the physical condition of the books.
Some collectors feel that as long as they have superhero titles in their collections they have a worthwhile collection as far as monetary value is concerned, because the comic book prices go up each year. Nothing could be farther from the truth. A lot of the reasons for the high prices is that with comic book collecting at a high right now, many dealers are buying low and selling high, thus making a big profit.
Buying comic books is like investing in the stock market. If you can't afford to lose the money, you shouldn't spend a lot of it on comic books to add to your collection thinking that you are going to get rich. The market is fickle and while you think that you have a comic that is worth a lot of money, you may have a hard time finding someone who is willing to pay you what it is really worth.
