How to Collect Comics

When you ask a comic book collector how to collect comics the answer you get depends on the collector. While many people stick to collecting superhero comics, there are many kinds of comic books, such as comedy, adaptations of classic stories, educational, mystery and many more. When you start your own comic book collection, start with the genre you like best. After you buy the comics you like and read them, you do need to make sure you have them stored properly so that they will not get damaged and therefore be of little value.

The first thing you have to do when you decide to start collecting comics is to find the comic or specialty store where you can browse and shop. There are also many flea markets held in cities on the weekend where comic book collectors set up booths. If you are not familiar with collecting comics, but would like to start, look through the selection of comic books that you find and pick out the ones that seem to have strong story lines and exceptional illustrations. You could start by searching online to find the names of comic books that collectors have or simply view the different collections available at flea markets and trade shows.

You can also take the time to look up the value of certain comics. If you have a price guide, you could take it to the store with you. The salesperson there may also be a comic collector and will be able to give you advice about comics that are rising in value. If you have early comics already, the chances are pretty good that the value rises about 8 to 10% a year. If you have more modern comics, the value will not rise as dramatically but you can still start a profitable investment by collecting comics. Each one will usually run a few dollars in value after a number of years, so starting a comic book collection could give you quite a nice nest egg.
