How to Draw Comic Books

When learning how to draw comic books, it is not a simple matter of creating a character. You do need to have knowledge of pacing and an understanding of distance and perspective in art. Since comic books are a method of telling stories in sequence, you do need to be able to draw two-dimensionally. Comic book publisher have no use for one-dimensional drawings. They want someone who can write a good storyline and who can create realistic images of scenery, such as the city or the countryside. They are also looking for artists who can accurately portray emotions on the faces of the characters.

When most children start to learn how to draw comic books, they always start drawing their favorite superhero. Comics are not always about superheroes and can be about anything you want. The best place to start is to draw things you are familiar with. The process starts by pencilling in the outline of the image, which is later colored in using an inking process.

If you don't have any experience with penciling, one fact about learning how to draw comic books is to know which kind of pencils you should use. 2H and HB pencils are the ones you need to use. The 2H pencils produce lighter lines, while the HB pencils are great for drawing the darker lines you need. India ink is the one you need for coloring in the pictures.

When you learn how to draw comics and want to get hired by one of the larger companies, you need to prepare a portfolio. This should contain about 6 or 7 pages of a story complete with dialogue and pictures. This will show prospective employers that you have what it takes to make it as a comic book artist or writer. You can also include single pages of designs, but the main thing is to be selective in what you decide to include. Too much is not the best way to go.
