Rare Comic Books

The rare comic books are the ones that avid comic book collectors are always on the look out for. The comics that are considered rare are the first or early issues of the very popular comics, such as Superman, Batman and Spiderman since the superhero comics tended to be the most popular. If you truly want to find rare comics, then you will have to do quite a bit of searching and be willing to pay a fair amount of money.

The Three Stooges are one type of comics that are considered to be rare comic books. In this line the earlier comics that were published in the 1940s and 50s range in price from $300 to $900. The comics that were published by Gold Key and Dell are cheaper but will still cost you between $35 and $100 per comic book.

Rare comic books fall into several categories depending on when they were published. The earliest ones are called comics of the Golden Age and include all the comics that were published up until the late 1950s. From about 1959 to 1969, the comics are called the Silver Age comics when Marvel and DC published the bulk of the superhero comics.

There are many places where you can purchase rare comic books. You may find some at second hand book stores, flea markets or the local comic book store. You can bid for them online at Ebay or search the many Internet sites where these comic books are bought, sold and traded. Auctions are another venue for collectors as are conventions and comic book tradeshows.

Just having rare comic books does not necessarily mean they are worth a lot of money. The condition of the comics determines how much they are worth. If they look almost new, then they are said to be in mint condition and are of considerable value. If they show any signs or wear and tear or have creases or tears, you best bet is get them appraised so that you know exactly how much your collection is worth.
