VOODOO MACBETH (ONESHOT)

America, 1936. During the height of the crippling Depression and in an era of massive social inequality, a brilliant twenty year old actor and magician named Orson Welles set about producing and directing the New Negro Theatre Project. In an audacious move he chose Macbeth, transported to 19th Century Haiti and starring the authors father, one Eric Burroughs. Welles transformed the witch queen Hecate into a Mephistophelean Prince of Darkness, so inspired was he by the actors performance.

The uniquely personal memory of this landmark event which launched Welles’ meteoric rise, and the inflamed controversy in Harlem, was related by the actor to his son Norris Burroughs, and now via a potent brew of fact, memory and magic, into this stunning one-shot from Engine Comics.

Certain to appeal to all readers of historical fiction, biographies, classic and mystery literature, VOODOO MACBETH will also be the first Engine Comics production to be made available as a download in both PDF and CBR formats, as well as in a square-bound magazine print format.

EXCLUSIVE: California-based creator Norris Burroughs will be visiting the Bristol Comics Expo on Saturday 13th May especially to sign copies of this title.

VOODOO MACBETH (ONESHOT) by Norris Burroughs: Shipping MAY 2006, 68 PAGES, £5.00/$10.00/E10.00. Square-bound A4 format, colour cover, b/w interiors.

SEVEN SENTINELS #1

The first issue of this epic sci-fi series begins this May. In a future Earth occupied by aliens for hundreds of years, a rag tag band of resistance fighters, the abused, tortured, and genetically meddled with, decide that enough is enough and rise up against the invaders. This isn’t just any old post-apocalyptic scenario, but a first small piece of a massive constructed Universe that will gradually reveal and surprise readers as they are drawn into the narrative, from one of the rising stars of UK independent comics, Marc Olivent.

The series begins after the United Nations Enhanced Peacekeepers, a genetically engineered super-powered police force known as The Questers, are defeated by the invading Vorman Geth, a brutal alien race with plans to sacrifice the Earth in a secret crusade. Mankind has since been reduced to a techno-mediaeval society, used as slave labour, target practice, or lab rats in cruel experiments. It’s from these ruins that ordinary people make extraordinary decisions to take back their destiny.

Also beginning in issue one is Secret Gods, the first of a four-part story by Barry Renshaw. Set in 2066, with nations recovering from a world wide electro-magnetic pulse that disrupted all communication networks and computer systems, plunging nations into chaos, an ex-FBI agent finds his brother and himself under attack from those who want the truth to remain hidden.

The printed version of the Seven Sentinels Universe comprise just one small but self-contained part of the narrative. Readers will get the sense immediately that that there is an entire universe waiting to be discovered, both in further issues and on the interactive website which goes live with issue 2 in November 2006.

Certain to appeal to all readers of superheroes, sci-fi, mystery and post apocalyptic thrillers, SEVEN SENTINELS #1 will also be made available as a download in both PDF and CBR formats, as well as in the A4 magazine print format.

EXCLUSIVE: Series creators Marc Olivent and Barry Renshaw will be visiting the Bristol Comics Expo on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May especially to sign copies of this title and do sketches. Barry Renshaw will also be appearing on the Hidden Gems of UK Comics Panel, discussing the rise of the UK comics industry.

SEVEN SENTINELS #1: Released MAY 2006 (rescheduled from November 2005), 40 PAGES, £2.00/$4.00. Colour cover, b/w interiors. Contact Barry Renshaw, editor@enginecomics.co.uk for more information.
